Alexovice, Ivančice
Festival

CZK 50

guided tour led by Martin Koplík

The textile factory in Alexovice is associated with two families whose names are inseparably linked to the history of the so-called Moravian Manchester. It was first established by the Skene family, who relocated their manufacturing operations from Brno to Alexovice. The factory was later acquired by the Placzek family, under whose ownership it experienced its greatest prosperity.

Its last owner, Alfred Placzek, a member of a prominent Jewish family, played a key role in the factory’s development and success. Following the Nazi occupation, however, the factory was confiscated by the regime, and Alfred Placzek himself became a victim of persecution. He died in 1942 in the Theresienstadt Ghetto.

The tour will be conducted in Czech with English interpretation.
