Identities in Motion: Judaism in Traditional Texts

Přízova, Brno-střed
Festival

CZK 50

lecture by Aleš Weiss

Judaism is often understood through the modern categories of nation or religion. In this lecture, Hebraist and scholar of religion Aleš Weiss examines these categories as ways of interpreting Judaism while showing how Jewish tradition both fits within and transcends them.

Drawing on Jewish texts from antiquity to the present, the lecture explores different understandings of Jewish identity and practice, tracing how the boundaries between "inside" and "outside" have been defined, challenged, and renegotiated across history. Through paired text study (chavruta) and group discussion, participants will engage with Judaism not as a fixed category, but as a dynamic space whose boundaries are constantly being reinterpreted.

The lecture will be conducted in Czech.
