music workshop with Yale Strom
American violinist, composer, ethnomusicologist, and one of the leading contemporary interpreters of klezmer music, Yale Strom will guide participants through the history and distinctive musical language of the klezmer tradition.
This practice-oriented workshop is open to musicians of all levels and instruments. Participants will explore characteristic melodic ornamentation, rhythm and interpretative nuances that distinguish klezmer from other forms of folk music. The workshop will also include the collective learning of a piece originating from the territory of former Czechoslovakia.
Selected participants will have the opportunity to join the evening concert directly on stage and experience a unique connection between community music-making and professional performance.
