Between Prayer and Song: Unetanneh Tokef and Leonard Cohen

Přízova, Brno-střed

lecture by Jan Fingerland

When Leonard Cohen wrote Who by Fire, he drew inspiration from the traditional Yom Kippur prayer. Or was he questioning its meaning? Throughout his career, Cohen seemed to create a kind of secular liturgy for the twenty-first century—not only for Jews, but for all who wrestle with doubt. What did he preserve from the original tradition, what did he transform, and what did he leave behind? And does his legacy continue today—perhaps through new voices and new interpretations? Join journalist Jan Fingerland for a lecture and shared reading of texts exploring these questions.

The lecture will be conducted in Czech.
