guided tour led by Kateřina Tučková

Brno was once one of Europe's leading textile centres, earning the nickname the Moravian Manchester. Its remarkable growth was driven by dozens of entrepreneurial families of Czech, German, and Jewish origin, whose lives and businesses shaped the city for more than two centuries.

Writer Kateřina Tučková, author of the novel Fabrika (The Factory), will guide participants through places connected with the stories of the industrial families that inspired her book. The walk explores not only the history of Brno's textile industry and its architectural legacy, but also the human stories behind the city's industrial golden age—stories of entrepreneurial success, social responsibility, forced exile, Aryanisation, and the destruction of a world that helped shape the identity of modern Brno.

Meeting point: Malinovského Square, in front of the Mahen Theatre. The tour will be conducted in Czech.
