lecture by Michal Doležel
The Stiassni family was among the most prominent figures in Brno’s textile industry and, over several generations, contributed significantly to the city’s economic, social, and cultural development. Family members led successful businesses, supported public life, and left a lasting mark on Brno’s architecture and urban landscape. At the same time, their story is one of prosperity, forced exile, and loss brought about by Nazi persecution.
In his lecture, researcher Michal Doležel will present the lives of individual family members within the broader context of the history of the “Moravian Manchester.” He will explore the family’s business activities, social standing, and architectural legacy, highlighting their contribution to the development of Brno.
The lecture will be held in Czech with English interpretation.
