The theatre-music production The Desire to Create, the Desire to Live brings to life the works of Gideon Klein, Hans Krása, Viktor Ullmann and other composers connected with Terezín. Through their music, it offers a powerful testimony to the longing to create and to live even in the midst of inhumane conditions. The text by Martina Kinská—featuring, among others, authentic quotations from Eliška Kleinová and Viktor Ullmann—will be presented under the direction of Hana Mikolášková, performed by Kateřina Veselá and Vít Malecha. Compositions by artists whose voices the Nazis sought to silence will be performed by Silvie Hessová (violin) and Kristina Barta (piano). The musical programme will also include works by Maurice Ravel, Antonín Dvořák, as well as Jewish folk music in the klezmer tradition.
