At the corner of Spálená and Přízova streets, the story of Brno’s Great Synagogue is reopening after decades of silence, thanks in part to archaeological research. This guided tour will offer a look at the surviving remains, present the architectural development of the synagogue and the circumstances of its destruction, and place the site within the broader context of the city’s urban transformations.
Meeting researcher Michal Doležel directly on site will allow visitors to look—both literally and symbolically—beneath the surface of a place that was once a center of spiritual and social life for Brno’s Jewish community.
